Adventures in not getting to School
This morning, I went ahead and tried to send Caroline to school. Her usual bus did not come, so a sub bus was sent. Caroline was the only student on the bus thus far. The driver turned off our street and proceeded to the back of the neighborhood. However, there was a cable line that was hanging down too low. The driver saw it too late and snapped the cable wire right off the pole. It was draped over the front of the bus. So, the driver called me and told me to come pick her up and were she was. So, I scurried to get the kids wrangled up and in the car. I still had inches of snow all over my windows since, I had no where to go. I found one of the kids old Wiggles CD's and scraped the windows so I could at least see where I was going. I got to the bus and Caroline comes running off the bus, her eyes were tearing up. One of the other neighbors saw it happen and called 911. I started to talk to the driver and made sure she was ok. She said she was fine just that it had scared her. I asked if she needed anything, she asked for some coffee since she was cold. I came home made a pot of coffee and brought it back to her. By this time the fire department had gotten there. The line was removed and she was told she should not have gotten off the bus so quickly until she was certain it was NOT a power line, it could have killed her. She said to me, "it did not spark when it was ripped from the pole, so she was fairly certain it was just a cable line". Not to mention the same neighbor had called the cable company to say that the line was hanging too low and the garbage truck almost hit it too. They saw it just in time and were able to stop. Just barely though. So, needless to say, she did not make it to school today. That was just too much drama for one 7 year old today.
